Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP)

Atlantic Canada Employer-Driven Immigration Pathway

Atlantic Canada Employer-Driven Immigration Pathway

The Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) is a federal immigration initiative established by the Government of Canada to support population growth and economic development in the Atlantic provinces. Originally launched in 2017 as the Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program (AIPP), it transitioned into a permanent program in 2022. The AIP enables eligible foreign nationals to obtain Canadian permanent residency through job offers from designated employers in one of the four Atlantic provinces: Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador.

Employer-Driven Pathway to Canadian Permanent Residency

Unlike traditional immigration streams, the AIP is an employer-driven pathway that requires candidates to secure a full-time, non-seasonal job offer from a designated employer and complete a Settlement Plan before submitting their permanent residency application. The program simplifies the hiring process by waiving the requirement for a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA), making it more attractive for both employers and applicants. It remains one of the few employer-sponsored immigration pathways in Canada that does not require an LMIA.
